Exponential Expectations

Just a random thought I was having, but have you ever reflected on how much the expectations placed upon you change as you grow older?

In my case, when I was young, it was enough to be succeeding academically. Then once I got to high school, the emphasis was sports – which I am a total klutz at /(>.<)\ .

THEN , once you near the end of high school, the emphasis is placed on academics, extracurriculars and beauty.

In university, it’s all that, plus a part-time job, getting internships, scholarships, etc.

Nearing the end of uni, you can add on the expectation of becoming extroverted – able to network amongst people, give speeches, attend the best parties, and have an active social life .

So at the age of 20, there are expectations for one to excel:

1. Academically

2. Socially

3. Personality-wise

4. Professionally

5. Aesthetically

Sigh. There’s so much pressure from every single aspect that it’s hard to focus on what I want to be, and what I want to do.

Sometimes it’s good to just take a step back, breathe, and just BE, without trying to constantly improve.
